The lineup for Ignite Fort Collins – After Dark #4 is (in no particular order):
- Aari – Burning Man: Utopia?
Burning Man is a lot of things to a of people. For some its an escape from the harsh reality of big city hustle and bustle. A place to relax and live 9 days at your own pace with no responsibilities. For others its the place where they get to let loose and go absolutely wild on multi day drug and EDM binges. And for some its this stupid bullshit festival that everyone talks about all the fucking time like its the greatest thing in the fucking world and you just want them all to shut the fuck up about it already! But what is it really, in a single succinct description?
- Ariel Armelino – Lies Virginity Told My Queer Body
As a non-binary queer identified female assigned at birth individual, I’ve been told stories all my life about the value of virginity and what “real sex” is. Now, in my mid twenties, I am kinky, polyamorous, and still by society’s standards a virgin. This talk explores the messages fed to queer people about valid sexuality and sexual expression within a heteronormative society. As a sex therapist I am now able to explore these messages from new angles and perspectives and share my experience with others.
- Christina G – Boudoir Photography – The Difference between Art & Obscenity
Humanity has a long history of admiring, idolizing, elevating and degrading the female body. Boudoir photography reaches back, long before it became a hip gift for a bride to give her groom on their wedding day. Pornography also reaches back, long before photography and videography even existed. So what’s the difference? Why do we hang one naked lady on the wall and hide another under the bed? What sets art apart from the obscene?
- Fist of History – Dirty Thirties – How the Great Depression was nothing like you were taught
A basic overview of the 1930s and the popular revolts, strikes, and protests of the 1930s that shifted the government left and helped end the Great Depression. Talk will touch on mass strikes, mass protests, the Bonus Army, the Business Plot, and other items. Most U.S. history classes teach a “sanitized” version of the Great Depression, focusing on large scale economic factors and a dis-empowered citizenry, visually using images of welfare relief lines and crushed farmers in the Dust Bowl. This ignores the many violent and visceral protests that took place throughout the United States attempting to force change and reform. This talk will focus on challenging that image of the Great Depression by showing how reform came about through struggle by masses of people.
- Gideon – The Decent of Men Into Little Bitches
What happened to the man who could speak his mind and tell the world how he really felt but was also willing to accept the consequences of his actions? Yes, people will still speak their mind. But run and hide when it comes to facing the consequences. Talk shit? Sure! But you might get punched in the face. Your response? Call the cops? Call an attorney? Maybe worse ruin you on social media!! We’ve become Bitches and it’s time to man up. Let’s go back to a simpler time if we have an issue we take it out back and the loser leaves or better yet buys the winner a beer and moves on. No lawyers, no cops, no Bullshit Internet trolls, and no guns. I’m from the belief system there are repercussions for doing what you do, but don’t be a Bitch about it when it’s time to pay the piper.
- Harmony – Alchemy Doesn’t Suck and It’s Totally Important
OK so imagine your entire life revolving around a fake book that’s based on fake science. Welcome to Harmony-town! I, like many, many other millennials, grew up hooked on the exploits of a certain boy wizard and his plucky young friends. Harry Potter defines the very essence of my personal philosophies, but let’s not get into that. You’ve heard that whole impassioned “Harry Potter is the shit speech” like a 1,000 times because Harry Potter is, in fact, the shit. Anyways, what’s important is that the entire structure of all seven Harry Potter novels is based on the ancient structure of alchemy, a form of “pseudoscience” that many people think of as some crackpot scheme to turn lead into gold. SPOILER ALERT. It’s fucking not. Alchemy is really fucking important, OK? Don’t believe me. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Well boys and girls, here are some fun facts.
- Nick Holland – The Psych Ward
The date of this show just so happens to be a few days after my fifth year anniversary of being released from a psychiatric ward that I willfully committed myself to, because I had reached a point of no return. I intend to depict the experience and causation of entering a psych ward and being released from one.
- Patrick Padden – Humanure…you gotta be shitting me
If the wolves, elk, and owls all exported their shit out of the forest, eventually the fertility of their habitat would diminish. Humans export all sorts of valuable shit out of our neighborhoods and our habitat is indeed suffering. Learn how composting human manure can be done safely and effectively to establish a new pattern of nutrient cycling and ultimately a new paradigm of human existence.
- Rich Young – Bananas & Condoms: The Beauty of Good Sex Ed
Insights & epiphanies from 10 years of teaching comprehensive sex ed classes to kids from kindergarten through 8th grade.
- Shannon Hamaker – The History of the Vibrator
When and why were vibrators invented?! You may be surprised to find it had nothing to do with sexual purposes! Find out why they were invented and what they looked like!
- Switch Jake – My 3 Secret Lives
Since the world doesn’t allow for me to be openly kinky (yet) I have to keep my life segregated. Additionally, I keep myself segregated again when I do my podcast. This talk explores two of my personas (Kink and Tech) and mentions the third, though it doesn’t give many details to preserve that privacy.
- Tracee Sioux – Hieros Gamos – The Red Hot Romance Of Jesus the Christ and Mary the Magdalene
There is new evidence that has been unearthed which “proves” that Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene were married and participated in ancient love rituals. Mary Magdalene is said to have been a priestess of the sexual nature and that the two created Hieros Gamos – marrying and becoming one with spiritual sexuality. In fact, many believe that Jesus’s message was really a feminist one and that Mary Magdalene wrote a book – after Jesus’s crucifixion when she fled, pregnant with his child, to a cave in France where she lived out her life – titled The Book of Love, which was hidden as the Catholic position on women and sex became so rigid, speaking of the oneness between partners and sex as a way to experience God. She is said to have led the early Christian church from this location, sending messages to the other apostles who preached her word. I’ll introduce evidence of the legitimacy of their marriage. Then expound on how we can apply it to our own love and sexual relationships today.
